I've always done this with all my previous cars and never had any issues with doing it.

I am resetting the fuel computer before I switch the engine off to refuel. My spare key theory does not hold as I didn't have the spare key with me. As I drove home, the fuel gauge ROSE and the range computer showed me an ever-increasing range! So, something is now adjusting to compute the correct fuel level and range but the initial reading straight after the fill-up was completely wrong. The range computer showed around 240 miles to empty. Again, this tallied with the fuel computers readings so nothing appeared to be wildly out.Īfter I paid I started the engine and the fuel gauge was only around 60% lit up. I then brimmed the tank completely and managed to squeeze in 40 litres. I reset the MPG reading to zero before I switched off the engine to refuel. So, all apeared to be normal prior to the fill-up. My MPG reading was around 33mpg and I had done around 300 miles since the last fill-up. I didn't want to take any risks as i'm not 100% sure that the fuel calculations are correct. Well, I filled up today with the range showing 82 miles to empty. It's new factory JCW and the fuel gauge is now reading correctly as the spare key is no longer carried with the main key in the car. Has anyone else encountered issues with the fuel gauge reading when changing keys and/or having both keys in the car at the same time? I have put forward my theory to my dealer and he will pass it on to BMW as a possible fault. not using the key to open the doors or start the car). I have narrowed this down to having both keys in the car with me at the same time and using the Comfort Access feature (i.e.

They reset the instruments binnacle.Īfter a couple of days I took the car to another dealer to get some accessories fitted and this time the gauge was showing nearly full after 120 miles of driving! Clearly, it was wrong. So they checked for leaks and found none so presumed the gauge was wrong. I took it back to the dealer and he went and refulled it and could only manage to get 9 litres of fuel in. As an example, I filled up to the brim one evening, having driven the car straight home from the dealer, and the next morning it showed only half a tank of fuel. I noticed it right after a car wash.Had my car into a couple of dealers over the last week and noticed that the fuel gauge was wildly out. Is your car doing the unlocking/clicking with the fob in your pocket when you approach from either side or just from one side? When I approach from the driver's sided everything works correctly, but I just noticed today that if I approach from the passenger side I get the unlock and clicking. Not sure what's in volved if the antenna is the problem. Would certainly be willing to replace door handles DIY if that's the cause.

Not sure if that's normal, but that's how mine has been for the 5 years that I've had it.Īlso have seen an "antenna" mentioned, but much less info out there on that one.Ĭan anyone offer insight into what my issue might be? If a fault code would help, will the car give those up or will I need a code reader for that? maybe not? Front doors lock and unlock by touch, back doors gave never locked by touch, but all four doors unlock when the back handles are pulled.

My comfort access handles work when they are working, so maybe. Seems like many of these issues have boiled down to a bad comfort access handle for most on the forum. Other times the car locks without a flash of the lights or activation of the light below the rearview. Sometimes when I lock the car, the lights flash and the light below the rearview mirror flashes as I'm accustomed to. It has locked and unlocked itself a few times when I was just standing next to it. Sometimes the comfort access works normally, sometimes comfort access doesn't work at all, but the lock and unlock functions on the key fobs still works, other times there is no reaction to comfort access or key fob input, the car is completely unresponsive. All menus and system data readings are shown on the graphic display in your. Secondary key fob produced the same behavior as well. The more advanced controllers of the ECL Comfort range use intelligent. First thought was to change the batteries in the primary key fob. Recently started to get the telltale clicking from the door locks and fuel door when I'm around the vehicle with the fob in my pocket.

Looking for some help from any of you knowledgeable BMW owners who have some experience with comfort access and some of the issues that have come up with it over the years.
